Hypnosis for moving out of survival mode without revisiting the past
Working with Portals
People come to Portals for different reasons. Some arrive because something is affecting their mental health: an anxiety, chronic fatigue, persistent pain, a lack of sleep, their low mood, or a fear or phobia that shrinks their world a little more each time. Others are functioning fine on the outside but something keeps getting in the way of them performing the way they want to, like a pattern they keep repeating or a habit/feeling they can't shift.
Both are exactly the right reason to be here.
When one thing shifts, nothing stays the same.
Clients rarely arrive with just one concern and even when they do, hypnotherapy doesn't work in isolation. When an underlying pattern changes, it changes everywhere it was active. Energy returns. Decisions feel clearer. Sleep improves. Because the presenting issue was often just the most visible thread. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you discover exactly how to move beyond unhelpful patterns.

The neuroscience of change:
Modern neuroscience has fundamentally changed how we understand the mind. And it’s very good news because your brain doesn’t simply react to the world around you. It predicts it constantly and automatically, below the level of conscious thought. Your brain is running forecasts based on everything it has learned in the past, so it’s constructing your emotions, your sense of safety, and your expectations of yourself and the world. But what was once learned can be unlearned and hypnotherapy is an incredibly effective tool to do exactly that.
How hypnotherapy works:
By changing the conditions and expectations we have about our experience, we can change the prediction. This is the reason why change through willpower alone can feel so hard, because deciding or understanding something consciously does not immediately change the unconscious programme.
Insight is a map, but it isn’t the journey.
Anxiety, low confidence, creative blocks and the pull back toward habits you'd rather not repeat. All of these are signs that your brain is in survival mode and running a stress response. This is often based on a prediction the brain learned at some point, which made sense in its original context, and one it has simply kept running. In hypnosis we can access and replace these old programmes and use the brain's plasticity to update them with more accurate predictions.
Hypnosis enables you to reach a state of high relaxation and visualisation by helping the brain enter into natural alpha and theta brainwave states. In this state, the amygdala's threat response quietens and the nervous system moves out of survival mode, giving you access to the parts of your brain that have more suitable behaviours. I’ll explain how this works in detail in your free initial consultation, teaching you practical neuroscience that you can start using immediately.

All Hypnotherapy starts with a consultation where we’ll discuss your situation in detail and explore what you’d like to achieve. I’ll explain the neuroscience behind why you might experience stress, anxiety, or low mood (or any of the above) and how we can turn it around. You'll have plenty of time to ask questions and I will provide you with a free relaxing evening hypnosis to get you started.

Hypnotherapy is generally more cost effective than other, longer term therapeutic models. Most clients benefit from around 8-10 weekly sessions, others want longer support. Progress is always individual, and results and timescales vary between clients. Many clients notice meaningful shifts earlier than they expect.
While complexity determines how many sessions might be needed, here is a general guidance based on past clients’ experience:
Reset & Unlock ~ 6-10 sessions
Reclaim & Expand ~ 4-8 sessions
Simple phobia ~ 3 sessions
Smoking/vaping cessations ~ 1× 2h session

Probably not what you're expecting. There's no loss of control and you wont be unconscious.
Most people describe it as a kind of focused relaxation, you’re calm and aware as you are following my voice. It’s like that moment just before sleep where your body feels nice and heavy but your mind is still present. It’s a receptive state where the brain becomes more open to new patterns and does its most open, generative work.
Clients find it surprising how ordinary and relaxing it feels and how big the impact is.

Client Reviews
I would 100% recommend Kat, working with her has been so transformational, in ways that I hadn't even expected.
- Amanda
I began not knowing anything about hypnotherapy but came with curiosity. I left our sessions amazed at the change that was possible throughout what seemed at first to be so light and easy.
- Rumi
Working with Kat has significantly improved my quality of life. When I started sessions I had been living with chronic fatigue (as a result of long covid) for 18 months. Hypnotherapy with Kat has not only led to me having more energy but also has improved my self esteem, my sense of self and motivation for life. I had no idea that Hypnotherapy could have such an impact but Kat's approach is so supportive, personal and genuine that it has been a game changer for me. Would highly recommend to anyone.
