About Kat —

Clinical Hypnotherapist and Founder of Portals

Portals exists because hypnosis changed my life in a way nothing else could.

My own life has been no straight line and I've had many of those portal moments, but my curiosity has guided me all the way. That curiosity took me from fashion design to curating, from Berlin to London, from teaching design students at the RCA to setting up a robotics lab for fashion technology research in Manchester. From engineering systems to studying the most interesting system of all: our wonderful and complex minds.

I came to hypnotherapy through chronic pain, after years of living with something that medicine, chiropractors, yoga and exercise couldn’t resolve. The change I experienced was so profound that I left a research career in the arts to understand it properly; which sent me deep into neuroscience, clinical training, and eventually into practice.

I mainly work with creatives. With people who love making things and care deeply about expressing themselves. If you are done waiting for the right moment and ready to go somewhere you haven't been before, you're in the right place; I created Portals for the curious.

Kat Thiel - Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist
DSFH, AfSFH (Reg)

  • Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) is a unique approach that combines neuroscience, CBT and solution focused therapy with the deeper work made possible by hypnosis.

As a modern, evidence-based therapeutic approach, SFH is both practical and structured, helping clients create meaningful and lasting change, often within a relatively short period of time.

Many people leave sessions feeling calm, refreshed, and pleasantly surprised by how deeply relaxing, enjoyable and effective this process feels.

  • Each session has two parts.

Rather than spending sessions analysing the past, we focus on where you want to get to. The psychotherapy element of each session is forward-looking and purposeful, creating space for new perspectives to emerge naturally. I will teach you useful techniques and tools responding directly to your needs during each session.

During the second half, the hypnotic trance creates a state of focused attention and relaxation in which the brain becomes more open to new ways of thinking by loosening the grip of the automatic patterns it has learned, and therefore making it easier for new and lasting patterns to form.

  • Hypnotherapy is collaborative by design and so your input shapes the output. Like any other form of therapy, hypnotherapy requires your commitment and a desire to change.

  • Portals is a strictly non-judgmental, confidential space, that is respectful, safe, and accepting. I welcome the LGBTQIA+ community, neurodivergent individuals, and people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds.

I am here to guide you during your first steps towards change, send me a message if you have any question at all.

I respond outside practice hours, usually within 24-48h.
